Shopify gives you the option to upload images in various shapes and sizes which can be quite overwhelming. So how do you know what size is best to upload?
There are three things to consider when uploading images to Shopify:
How much space the images take up on the screen
The dimensions and pixel number of the images
The overall file sizes of the images
These three things will affect how potential customers view your store, the quality of images you’re uploading, and even how quickly the page will load.
SHOPIFY IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
The Shopify platform allows you to upload images of up to 4472 x 4472 pixels with a file size of up to 20 MB - but Shopify recommends using 2048 x 2048 pixels for square product photos, which should give you both good image quality and site speed.
SHOPIFY IMAGE OPTIMISATION
Image optimisation means you need to reduce the file size of your images as much as possible but without sacrificing the quality! On top of this, you need to consider image SEO as well - search engines not only crawl the text on your page, they also crawl your image file names. By using relevant descriptive keywords you’ll help your product photos to rank on Google and other image search engines.
